FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup: India to take on USA in the competition opener

By India Today Web Desk: India will lock horns with USA in the opening match of the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar. India has been placed alongside USA, Brazil and Morocco in Group-A of the competition.

This is the first time India is hosting a Women's World Cup at any age level. The competition will be played across Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai. India had booked an automatic berth in the Under-17 World Cup and will be one of the three debutants in the tournament along with Morocco and Tanzania.

Speaking ahead of India's opening match at the Under-17 Women's World Cup, head coach Thomas Dennerby said even though USA are favorites on paper, India has a chance to get points against them.

"USA are the favourites against us, no doubt about that. But that is on paper and football is played on a pitch for 90 to 95 minutes. We feel that we also have a chance to get points against USA," Dennerby said at the pre-match press conference.

The head coach went on to say that the team has prepared hard for the tournament and reaching the quarter-finals will be a huge achievement for the team.

"We have prepared well since February and the players are ready for the tournament. Reaching the quarterfinals will be a huge achievement but we are currently focused on Tuesday's match," Dennerby added.

India's match against USA will kick-off at 8PM IST and will be broadcast live on Sports 18 and Sports 18 HD in India. The matches can also be live streamed on the Voot Select app.
